The Essentials

2008/2009 recap and best memory?: Spent a week of February in Utah and learned a lot about what I needed to accomplish.Went to work as soon as I came back, learned 5 or 6 new tricks that helped me win the Spring Massive Big Air and Rail Jam…really surprised myself.

2009/2010 outlook and goals?: Tryin to have that same motivation all year long..I learned what I can do when I push myself, and I’m just tryin to progress as best I can..Wanting to focus more on pipe this year also.

What is your ski style – how would you describe yourself?: I guess I’d say innovative yet laid-back? I love floating some slower spins rather than hucking myself, and I’d like to think I have some unique rail tricks.

Your ideal day on the mountain is…: Sunny and windless, beyond that any day on the mountain is ideal.

Do you have a competition day superstition or ritual you stick with?: I try and get a couple normal feeling runs in, outside the park..I screw around a bit on a bump run or even a groomer, to remind myself it’s just another day on the hill.

Where do you find clarity and inspiration?: The mountains..I only need to look around and take some deep breaths to remind me how great I’ve got it.

What’s your favorite trick, and one you want to work on?: I love my Rodeo 5s, they’re floaty and I can really play around with my grabs…This year I’m workin on switch corks, and tryin to get cork my 3s dialed both ways.

What was the moment of the biggest breakthrough in your skiing progression?: I switched to Telemark Skiing.  There are infinite possibilities, limited only by fear or a lack of motivation.

Before you got all your gear and lift tickets for free, how were you able to fund your skiing?: I work hard all summer, plus I drive a Draft Horse Sleigh at night all winter. I figure as long as I’m skiing and eating, I don’t need much else.

How did you get your first sponsor?: RMU approached me and of course I said yes..perfect skis.

What do you want your legacy in the ski industry to be?: My biggest dream is to be remembered as a leader and an innovator of Telemark park skiing.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? Was skiing always the plan?: Skiing was the only thing I KNEW would be part of my life forever..Heh, I’m still tryin to figure out what I want to be when I “grow up”.

Where are you in 10 years?: Skiing.  Probably in a small town with a sweet mountain, hopefully on a ranch of my own with some horses.

Your influences?: Candide Thovex, he goes big and has his own style..exactly what I hope to accomplish.

How important is music for you in a skiing video?: It really helps the flow of a segment, as long as the music matches the skiing style, and the editing.

What’s your favorite Ski Movie ever and why?: Well, it’s That’s It That’s All..I know it’s snowboarding but it is the coolest winter sports movie ever made. Very well put together.

Favorite video part ever and why?: Really any segment Candide has ever come out with..90% of what he does blows me away, and really gives me ideas and inspiration.
